Javascript error when running HTML?

Ever since the Twine 2.0.8 update, where the application went from in-browser to its own executable, I've been unable to run HTMLs straight from the file. They're still playable when I press "test" or "play" from within the twine program, but just clicking the HTML and having it open in browser yields this error message.

I'm worried of the implications that I won't be able to share this due to the problem. Is there a fix for this? Any help is appreciated.

  • Recently Chromium based web-browsers like Chrome and Opera were changed to restrict access to the History module for locally opened HTML files, some of the Twine story formats use the History module which results in the error you are seeing.

This comment in the SugarCube releases threat explains that both versions 1 and 2 of SugarCube have been updated to handle that error.

If you are using one of the off-line versions of the Twine 2 application and the SugarCube 2 story format then you can update the story format to the latest version.

Other wise you may need to change which web-browser you use to open story HTML files.

I do use an offline version of Sugarcube because I have intermittent internet connection. Thank you for the answer.
