Javascript, Mobile, and so on

Howdy, so I'm fiddling around in twine to make some helpful documentation for my coworkers and I regarding various computer-related problems. It works wonderfully on Firefox when I export it, but on IE, especially older versions of IE, which is used by the folks who actively want this help-guide, they get an error about null values or needing to enable javascript content, and then guide I made in twine won't load.

Is there a way to get something made in twine to work in older browsers?

  • If by "older browsers" you mean IE6 or IE7, then no.  The vanilla headers only support IE8 and above, SugarCube only IE9 and above.
  • I see. Thanks!

Is there software similar to Twine, that will work on all browsers? Specifically Cell Phones?
  • IE6 and IE7 on Windows XP don't receive security updates anymore, so getting those users to migrate to a different browser could solve some of their computer-related problems. ;)

There is nothing in theory that prevents Twine from working on cell phones, but it hasn't received as much testing as desktop browsers have, so it might break down in practice. I read that SugarCube v0.9.5 fixed an issue with mobile browsers, so work is being done to improve mobile support. Also the Responsive story format was designed with mobile in mind, I think.
  • A note from my experience with Twine/Mobile is that variables can't be remembered if the user has manually changed their security settings:
i.e. - an iPhone 5 user had settings which they'd tweaked, and even when they reset to factory (see attached image) choosing to browse 'in private' meant that no information could be stored locally on the phone about choices they'd made.
The game worked fine for the most part, but presenting the player with info based on their choices at the end of the game was a mess!
