A question about file size

I don't know if this is the right place for this question, but I figure it's an okay place to start. I heard that making the file size of your game too big will impede downloads and make it really, really hard to load, but I don't really have a reference as to how big is too big. When should I start to worry about the file size of my game? I'm mainly asking because I'm making a very picture heavy game, and while there are image compression tools out there and I plan to abuse the hell out of them, there's only so much file size that can be shaved off. It will probably still end up as a pretty big file.

  • It doesn't really matter that much. There are plenty of web and Flash games out there that weigh in at almost 100MB, so if you're below that (and unless you're somehow bundling audio into the HTML, you probably are), you're still within reason.
