Online game saves storage?

edited November 2016 in Help! with 2.0
When playing online, where are Twine's save files stored?

In other words, would the saves be lost if the user cleared their browser cache?

  • Never mind. I see from testing that the user gets the option to save to disk or, presumably, just to their cache for quick load purposes??
  • Are we talking about Twine 2 saves of a working project or story format saves of an in-play project?

Story format / Game saves of an in-play project. The saves of the players' progress in the finished game.
  • Then those have nothing to do with Twine. They're purely a story format thing and what, exactly, is supported depends upon the story format in question.

Also, online or offline has no bearing within this context. AFAIK, all story format saves function the same regardless of how a player is consuming the project.

For specific answers, I'm going to assume that we're talking about SugarCube v2's save subsystem.

Slot saves, including the autosave, are currently stored within Web Storage. The contents of Web Storage will likely be lost when doing any kind of browser "cleanup" action—Web Storage is treated virtually identically to cookies in that regard. Several external programs can also purge Web Storage, so there's that too.

Disk saves are saved external to the browser, so are safe from all browser "cleanup" actions.

    Thank you.
